For this week's post you need to accomplish two things:
1) Write about the ways that you currently use technology to help and improve your learning. For example, you may use google docs to keep all of your written work easily accessible, or you may use google calendar to remind you of important events and appointments.
2) Uncover some new technological tools to help your learning. For example, if you are disorganized, find a tech tool to help you become more organized. Discuss how you would implement this tool into your learning life.
The goal here is to think about the ways technology helps you in an educational setting. Be sure to respond to a classmates' response and to post by 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Have a great weekend.
Technology helps me in a few ways with my school work. As mentioned in the instructions i use both google docs and calendars to help me organize and access my work. I also use word processing so help people read my work because of my messing hand writing. I found a program that allows you to speech to the computer and it'll write down what you say. this could be used for notes or for getting a rough paper written. This might help me sometimes to put more details in to wiring pieces. technology helps me all the time with my education ranging from using youtube to find information about how to use do things to writing and editing papers for classes.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I really like about google cal is that it syncs with my phone, which is what I use most of the time. Android syncs everything with google.
DeleteI agree with the speech to text program. On a first draft you can just worry about the content not the grammar and punctuation. It is also a good way to put more detail into a paper.
DeleteSpeech to text program would be extremely useful and I would use it ALL THE TIME.
DeleteTechnology has helped me in many ways. For example, with google docs i am able to write a paper and share it with my teachers. The teachers can then comment and make notes about my writing, this allows me to get instant feed back form them, while they see a step by step process of my my essay is turning out. One thing i found useful to me, but not particularly new to technology, is the video camera. You can use this to record a speech or a lecture, then refer to it later were you can go through it slowly step by step and take notes without having to worry about being rushed and getting everything down.
ReplyDeleteRecording speeches is a great idea! I'm always taking pictures of notes or diagrams on the board in some classes and looking at them another time because it is a lot easier and you get absolutely all the information you need to study for tests.
DeleteI hadn't thought of recording speeches or presentations I will have to give that a shot sometime. The one question I have is how to direct the camera at them. It would seem to me that you would have to turn the computer in the complete wrong direction and then have no control over the actual recording process.
Delete1) When I was in elementary, I had a learning disability, partly because of my atrocious handwriting and poor ability to spell. Then I got a computer, and started typing and using spellcheck. In the 30's when people actually had to know how to spell and had to have neat little cursive handwriting, it would have been important to fully cultivate those skills. Not so much anymore.
ReplyDelete2) I really need a new note taking app. I like OneNote by microsoft, but it is only for win. I could try evernote. Evernote is a free multiplatform note and project syncing client. It would work on my phone and on my windows and mac computers. I think Ill set up an account right now.
I agree with evernote, its an android based app, unavailable for the app store for apple i believe but is a great online reference
DeleteHow does OneNote help you more that just writing down your notes on paper or on a word document?
Delete1) Currently, technology is used in every day life for high school students. First off, electronics are a great way to store information. It is hard to save notes or assignments on a computer and lose it. I keep many projects on my computer and googledocs to reference for school. I also use my iPhone to write down homework assignments, as a calendar and reminder.
ReplyDelete2) I mainly use my computer and technology for media related assignments, and keeping track of assignments. If I used electronics more for note taking, rather than keeping track of assignments, it would be an easy file which wouldnt risk getting lost or unorganized. An app I could use to stay up to date as far as orginization would be google calendar.
1) I don't use a lot of technology but when I do it is usually to help me in school. Using a computer to take notes can be very helpful but I find that if I have a computer in class it is much easy to get distracted. I also think that actually writing things down can help you remember things. I mainly use google docs because it helps me to store papers without having to constantly send my self updated copy's. With google docs it saves automatically and it allows for very easy group collaboration. I don't usually use the google calender, I have a real calender and it works fine for me.
ReplyDelete2) I feel that I am very organized, I don't have a high tech phone and I don't feel that any of the apps on them would be of any real help, it would however be nice to have a smart pen. This pen can record what you write on its special paper and that can be transmitted online. It also records what the teacher is saying so you wont miss anything/
I agree, with google docs it's much easier to keep everything organized, you don't have multiple copies of a paper floating around. For note-taking in class, the main problem is that you can't make graphs/columns that easily on a computer.
DeleteGoogle doc is a very useful tool. I use it for all my classes. It is very easy get to it and you don't need to worry about losing the works you did. Also you can share with other people and work on it at the same time.
DeleteI find google doc's great because you can access it any where any time on any computer.
Delete1) The main thing that I use for learning is Google Docs, because it's easy to collaborate with other people and discuss things. I sometimes use Dropbox as a place to keep papers/projects so that I have an extra copy that I can access anywhere. In science we turn in our labs online.
ReplyDelete2)Soundcloud can be a helpful tool as well, because you can practice reciting a speech and hear it back. If you take a language, you can work on pronunciation. Websites like quizlet or quia are good for studying.
Soundcloud is great. I'm biased here because I use it for extracurricular means... But I do find that if I listen to a certain narration enough times, I am able to repeat it much more easily than if I was to visually read that same speech.
Delete1) One main way that I use technology in an academic setting is to merely take notes using a word processor. I, like most people of my generation, type faster than I write by hand. I find that this isn't a negative thing, for I am able to store as many pages as needed on my computer rather than having to carry a notebook around. The main con that's been pointed out to me is the fact that writing something using a tangible utensil often allows you to remember what you've written more easily. This could be a problem, but I'm such a forgetful person anyway that I'd probably only write down things that I'd want to be able to retain in the future.
ReplyDelete2) I need to remember to write assignments down. I can easily use my computer for that, but I neglect to do so at least 90% of the time. At some point (i.e. before college), I should probably purchase some sort of productivity application to cloak the tediousness in visual decency. Eye-catching formats can really appeal to me, and I admit to it. I'm definitely willing to search for a productivity app in the near future.
Ways technology helps me is basically only to take notes during class and to write papers. Like Des said, I type faster than I write by hand. I tend to forget things that I write down on paper, I also tend to lose the papers, not just forget what I write. This can be a huge problem in high school people it is important to have some organization skills.
ReplyDeleteSomething I want to have would be something that would keep track of everything that I have to do and to remind me that I have to do stuff. Not just with school, I would want this to remind me of my work schedule. I do tend to forget a lot of stuff that is important. If i had something
i use technology to help me learn in many ways, i can use Google to help me get to web sights that allows me to research topics quickly of interest with out having to go through the school first. i also use Google docs to help me save my information once i have obtained it. next i also use dragon speak and cowriter to help me write down the things i learn.
DeleteThe technology I use to help me is Google doc. I use it most often because when you are doing school works you can easily get to it without having trouble finding it and don't need to worry about losing the work. Also when you working in groups you can share the work with your group members and teachers. I have trouble of taking notes in class so if there is a technology that can help me take notes is going to be very helpful.
ReplyDeleteI agree, i do use technology that can help me take notes. I have a lot of trouble taking notes in class.
DeleteThat's why google docs is the main app I use. It's easy to access and it provides you with many different options! Also, you can access google docs anywhere at anytime!
DeleteI use technology for google docs. I often use it for essays and power points. Im not an organized person but Google docs is very organized. It saves my essays automatically and I don't really have to struggle finding my essays. Whenever I have a group project I can just share it with my group and we all can work on it together like giving each other feed backs on things.
ReplyDeletei to like google docks, i really like how it saves for you, i am always forgetting to
DeleteThe technology I use to help me is mainly the google docs. They're convenient and accessible especially since I don't bring a computer to school. I don't have to worry about my work staying in one place or processor. In some classes we are expected to use SoundCloud to help us listen and recite. It's great for learning languages and memorization. I have an i-pod and I keep notes in it when I need to remember something but for the most part I write everything down. Most of my classes have online text books and activities which I can get a hold of on my Ipod or computer easily. I don't carry around text books anymore and instead leave them at home.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really good point. I also feel that the main reason that most of our generation uses technology is for the convenience
DeleteI use technology in my educational experience daily to write essays and obtain information about assignments online. I use my own computer to store my assignments for reference as well as to actually create them. My own computer has been essential in staying on top of the various assignments I get every week I used my computer everyday and could not keep up without it. I take noted write essays and watch educational videos. I have done programming edited videos and and even altered photos all using my own computer. I use a very elaborate calendar system on my computer to help me keep track of important deadlines that I need to stay on top of. I have a very tough time editing videos and ever since I upgraded to lion which does not support power PC clients I have not been able to use the old version of Imovie. To help get around this I have been trying to teach myself how to use Final Cut which is a more universal but unfortunately expensive piece of editing software but far outreaches the capabilities of Imovie and it’s meager ability to edit footage.
ReplyDeleteTechnology has helped me through out school in many different ways. The biggest thing that has helped is having a computer with me in class to take notes. This makes it much easier to take notes and it I can get more information down in a shorter period of time. Also with Google Docs I am able to more easily communicate with class members when working on a group lab in physics or on a study guide for another class. Even sites like Facebook help me stay organized with notes and reminders that pop up when I set them to.
ReplyDeleteRecently I have been using different things like my phone and ipod which have calendars and a note pad to write down homework assignments and jot down little notes.
The technology I use for educational purposes is mainly google docs. Google docs allows me to write an essay fast. It helps because it saves frequently and it gives me one less thing to think about. What also helps about working on google docs is that you can get teacher feedback. Teachers can comment on your writing piece and it allows you to edit quickly.
ReplyDeleteI use Facebook as a way to obtain information that I missed in class one day and to communicate with others to give/get assignments. For some courses we even have a designated page created so people can post links to notecards, videos, articles, etc. I also use an online foreign language dictionary (www.wordreference.com) to assist me with translations and verb conjugations to better understand certain the language, assignments, etc. I use Microsoft Word and Powerpoint for many things, school-related and for extracurricular purposes. Word mostly because of the different layouts you can create things with (printing, publishing, etc.). I use Word for almost all of my papers, projects, notes, study guides, etc.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been successful with using any online calendars, like Google Calendar, to help my organization. This is probably because I don't use the internet on a daily basis, so I can't maintain a steady use of it (Google Calendar), and I end up forgetting about it. I attempted the use of the Reminders application on my iPad, and was successful until I began to decrease my use of the iPad in general. So far though, Reminders was the most successful technological tool that I have been able to maintain to assist my organization.
I know I do not spend that much time on the Internet, because I have to work go to school do homework and sleep. it is no surprise that such families have so much time to spend on the Internet. But the Internet is just the latest of time waster for the nonworking. 30 years ago it might have been TV, 80 years ago it might have been hunting. The problem is in the people not the technology.
